Rare Wardrobe Cabinet by Willy Van Der Meeren
Rare Wardrobe Cabinet by Willy Van Der Meeren
This wardrobe cabinet was designed by the Belgian architect and designer Willy Van Der Meeren for Tubax in the early 1950s.
It is a nice example of Mid-Century Belgian social furniture design. This wardrobe was designed for the private market.
Unique is the metal base structure.
This cabinet has 2 sliding doors with elegant wooden handels. The yellow door is made of metal covered with yellow vinyl, the blue door is lacquered. Both doors are in good authentic condition.
The body is made of black lacquered metal finished with wooden panels. The wooden panels are restored.
Inside there are a hanging-rod and 3 metal shelves. This cabinet can be used as a wardrobe or for a variety of other storage needs.
This unique cabinet is in very good condition. We’ve turned it ‘inside out’ to clean it, the gliders of the doors are renewed, so the doors are working smoothly.
Willy Van Der Meeren (1923-2002) played a prominent role in the Belgian furniture design of the 1950s. From 1951 to 1958 he designed for Tubax a whole catalogue of furniture for “the contemporary home”.
