Transat Chair by E. Gray for Ecart Int.
Transat Chair by E. Gray for Ecart Int.
The Transat or Transatlantique chair was designed by Eileen Gray in 1927. The structure is made of black lacquered wood, the seat and back are upholstered and covered in black leather, the details are in chromed metal.
The principle was that of a suspended panel of leather-upholstered material, with a headpiece that could pivot to suit the posture of the sitter. Eileen Gray was inspired by the ocean-liner deckchair.
The Transat Chair was used as a deck chair at the famous Villa E 1027 at Roquebrune Menton. It became one of Eileen Gray’s most enduring and signature pieces.
This chair is on old production by Ecart International in Paris. It is in very good vintage condition.
