T1 Tangram Dining Table by Willy Van Der Meeren for Tubax
T1 Tangram Dining Table by Willy Van Der Meeren for Tubax
Willy Van Der Meeren designed this dining table, model T1, for Tubax in 1954.
The three-legged frame is made of black and red painted metal, the top is covered with a marble-printed formica.
This table is in good vintage condition. It is complete authentic of the 1950s.
I arrived at this design because I hate those endless extension pieces that get stuck and always have to be stored somewhere. A table is more stable on three legs and the American and Norwegian prefabricated boards – 1,22 x 2,44 m – enable you to make 2 large and 2 small table-tops, plus 2 tops for bedside cabinets, without any waste. The table with extension pieces is replaced by 2 separate tables, one for the dining area and the other to work on. They can be put together for a larger group.
Willy van der Meeren (1923 – 2002) was a Belgian architect and furniture designer, he played a prominent role in the Belgian furniture design of the 1950s. From 1951 to 1958 he designed for Tubax a whole catalogue of furniture for “the contemporary home”.
