Set of 4 MR10 Cantilever Chairs by L. Mies Van der Rohe for Knoll Int.
Inspired by the cantilever chairs of Mart Stam and Marcel Breuer, Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe replaced the right angles on the front legs with a graceful curve which had the advantage of increasing elasticity while preventing material fatigue.
Mies Van der Rohe first showed his cantilever chair in 1927 at the Weißenhofsiedlung.
These chairs have a curved frame of chromium plated tubular steel.
The back rest and the seat in black cowhide are kept together with the original polyester laces.
To keep the back rest on his place there are little metal clamps (see detail picture).
These MR10 chairs were produced by Knoll International in the 1960s and so not marked.
The chairs are in very good vintage condition, with a nice patina.
