‘Zitten is een werkwoord’ – ‘Sitting is a verb’
The legendary Red And Blue Chair is probably best known as the Rietveld chair. Despite the sleek design, featuring two plywood plates and fifteen connecting bars, this armchair is very comfortable to sit and read.
Rietveld designed the chair in 1918 but added the colors only in 1921, influenced by his colleagues Theo Van Doesburg and Piet Mondriaan of De Stijl movement.
Today, the Red & Blue Chair, made by the Italian company Cassina, is the most famous representation of De Stijl.
The Red & Blue chair is produced by Cassina from 1973.
This one is numbered 2016, so an early production of the 1970s in the workshop of Meubelmakerij Rietveld in the Netherlands.
The chair is in good vintage condition, the red back is a little pale and their are some small damages.
