Red and Blue Chair by Gerrit Rietveld for Cassina
‘Zitten is een werkwoord’
The Red And Blue Chair is probably the best known design by Gerrit Rietveld. Despite the sleek design, featuring two plywood plates and fifteen connecting bars, this armchair is very comfortable to sit and read.
Rietveld designed the chair in 1918 but added the colors only in 1921, influenced by his colleagues Theo Van Doesburg and Piet Mondriaan of De Stijl movement.
Today, the Red and Blue Chair, made by the Italian company Cassina, is the most famous representation of De Stijl.
The Red and Blue chair is produced by Cassina from 1973.
This one is numbered 4070.
The chair is in very good condition, with some minor damages caused by age and used. Take a look at the detail pictures.
