Panamarenko - Model Kit - Vliegend Eiland
This model kit ‘Vliegend Eiland’ (Flying Island) was edited by Panamarenko in 2004 as an edition of 284 pieces for the exhibition ‘Te land, ter zee en in de lucht’ at the Flemish Parliament
This multiple is complete in its original box. The box is a little damaged.
The original and authentic construction Flying Island was manufactured by Panamarenko in 2004. Later he commissioned a studio to produce a full-scale model based on this artwork. The result is an impressive colossus with a wingspan of 17 meters. Although the name Panamarenko (short for Pan American Airlines Company) indicates that the artist sees himself primarily as an aircraft constructor, he builds all types of vehicles, such as cars, boats, submarines and even spacecrafts.
Flying island is not a plane, but a kind of hovercraft: an all-terrain vehicle with three seats, that moves on a two-meter high air cushion. That makes it so lightweight that controlling the vehicle can be done simply by shifting the body weight. Its solar powered engine is environmentally friendly as well.
