This impressive textured wall tapestry was created and made by Mie Preckler in Belgium in the 1970s. The tapestry is handwoven from different natural fibers and wool, it is exposing an interesting abstract composition of textures and patterns. All the ropes and threads are hand picked and artisanal made for this specific tapestry by the artist. Great example of artistic talent showcasing a great variation of weaving techniques, materials and a mix of color shades and textures. The work is showing a nice deep relief. It is in very good authentic condition and thoroughly cleaned. The tapestry is signed and dated 1978.
Mie Preckler is a visual artist whose site-specific and site-responsive installations and interventions have been shown throughout the U.S., South America, Asia and Europe. Born in Antwerp, Belgium, she has received numerous awards and honors, including grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Phyllis C. Wattis Foundation. Mie Preckler currently lives in Oakland, where she is a Professor at the California College of the Arts.
