Rare Dining Table by Willy Van Der Meeren for Tubax
Willy Van Der Meeren designed the table in 1954 for his own house at the Vierwindenbinnenhof, a residential project he designed in Tervuren, Belgium.
The table is pure and functional, typical for the design of Van Der Meeren.
This table is made of a simple black lacquered metal frame and a birch wooden top. It is rare and unique piece, hard to find.
It is in very good vintage condition.
Willy van der Meeren (1923 – 2002) was a Belgian architect and furniture designer, he played a prominent role in the Belgian architecture and furniture design of the 1950s.
In 1951 his furniture designs appeared in La Jeune Décoration, an exhibition and competition organized in Brussels. Van Der Meeren did not win the prize but he did attract the attention of Jan Vits, the owner of the metalworking company Tubax. The cooperation between Van Der Meeren and Tubax was a fact. From 1951 to 1958 he designed for Tubax a whole catalogue of furniture for “the contemporary home”.
