Prussian Spike Helmet or Pickelhaube
Prussian Spike Helmet or Pickelhaube
This outstanding helmet was worn by the Prussian troops of the german emperor Wilhelm 2. A most elegant and well designed spike helmet (Pickelhaube).
All brass/copper helmet parts, skull made out of leather.
Black/white/red (state/empire), black/white/black (Prussia)cockades attached to helmet via leather backed copper chin scales. Front helmet plate is the Prussian Eagle, with the text “MIT GOTT FÜR KÖNIG UND VATERLAND ” (with God for King and Fatherland) on it.
No extra holes underneath the helmet plate or spike area which is a good indication that the helmet spike and plate are still original and belonging to each other for more then a century.
Black complete leather liner. Of note: the helmet seems to be upgraded from an older enlisted man (trooper) helmet model (the one with screwed on chinscales into an unteroffizier ( nco non commissioned officer) due to the use of officer and nco style of chinscales.
This amazing piece of history and partly handcrafted object is in very good condition.
