P40 Lounge Chair by Oswaldo Borsani for Tecno, 1950s
P40 Lounge Chair by Oswaldo Borsani for Tecno, 1950s
Following on the success of the D70 divan at the 10th Triennale Exhibition of 1954, Borsani began to work on the idea of a mechanical joint that could allow an armchair the freedom of movement necessary to assume different positions, especially for relaxation.
Borsani’s P40 is a relaxing chair made from mobile elements.
A metal pedestal supports the seat and backrest which are pivoted to permit all possible angles.
A foldaway element under the seat can pivot outwards to provide extended leg support and incorporates a pull-out metal foot-rest.
The armrests are in steel and rubber.
This P40 has still its original upholstery in black imitation leather, a new material since 1958. All structural parts are in black lacquered metal.
This lounge chair can easily be replaced because of 2 hidden wheels under the back legs.
It is still in very good original condition, with a small damage on the imitation leather on the back, visible on the pictures.
