This Chair CN° II was designed by Maarten Van Severen in 1992. It is a 1st production, produced in his own workshop in Gent.
The frame is made of aluminum and the back and the seat are made of beech plywood, varnished on request of the client. This chair was only made in 4 copies, 2 are already sold.
This chair is an important collector’s item and should not be missing in a MVS collection.
This amazing chair is later produced by Vitra and used in several musea and public buildings: the Langen Foundation in Insel Hombroich, Neuss, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, …
Maarten Van Severen (1956 – 2005) is one of the best-known contemporary Belgian designers. In the late eighties he started to create furniture in his own workshop in Gent. His designs are simple, clear and well thought-out.
They reflect his quest for perfection in form, detail and execution. He prefers to call himself a maximalist – someone who unstintingly devotes all his energy and resources to achieving the desired result, even if that ultimately and perhaps inevitable appears minimalist.
