Dan Van Severen (Lokeren, 8 February 1927 – Ghent, 15 February 2009) was a Belgian painter. Van Severen was a representative of abstract painting.
His abstract art was built on simple geometric motifs: square, rectangle, diamond, circle and oval.
His drawings sometimes consisted of a single line. From the combination of square and rectangle he later distilled the cross shape, the universal sign, that was the ultimate key of all his compositions.
The cross is always present in his later work.
